Frequently asked questions

Why is the case filled with liquid?

Glycerine fill serves two functions: it damps pointer oscillation caused by pressure pulsation or vibration (protecting the bourdon tube and movement), and it lubricates the movement to reduce wear in vibrating environments. Field tests show liquid-filled gauges last 3–5× longer than dry gauges in pulsating service.

What happens if glycerine leaks from the case?

Glycerine is water-soluble and biodegradable. A small leak indicates case seal failure — replace the gauge. For food-contact areas, use the silicone-oil fill option (NSF H1 registered), which is also non-toxic if minor contact occurs.

Can ZX-06 be used at temperatures below −20 °C?

Standard glycerine fill becomes viscous below −10 °C and may solidify around −20 °C, causing sluggish pointer response. For low-ambient or cryogenic service, specify silicone oil fill (rated to −40 °C) at order.

What is the maximum operating pressure of ZX-06?

Available in ranges up to 0–60 MPa. At the upper end, the gauge uses a C-type bourdon tube with heavy-wall construction. Confirm with the engineering team for ranges above 40 MPa.

Does glycerine fill affect accuracy?

Not significantly. The damped movement still meets Class 1.6 (±1.6% FS) per EN 837-1. Temperature changes affect glycerine viscosity slightly, which is why ZX-06 is rated for −20 °C to +60 °C ambient.

Are glycerine-filled gauges suitable for oxygen service?

No. Glycerine is a combustible fuel and is incompatible with oxygen. For oxygen service, specify the silicone-oil fill option (O₂ compatible) and confirm the gauge is cleaned and capped for O₂ per ASTM G93 before use.

What wetted materials are used in ZX-06?

Bourdon tube and socket: 316L stainless steel (standard). Case body: 304 SS or 316L SS. No brass wetted parts in the standard configuration, making ZX-06 suitable for ammonia and other brass-incompatible media.

Can ZX-06 be installed in any orientation?

Yes — liquid fill ensures the movement remains lubricated regardless of mounting angle. Bottom entry (LM) and back entry (CBM) are both available. Note that the pressure-relief plug must remain accessible.

How do I know if a snubber is still needed with ZX-06?

For pulsation amplitude above ±30% FS, a snubber is still recommended in addition to liquid fill. ZX-06 handles moderate vibration and pulsation; for severe hydraulic hammer, combine liquid fill with a piston snubber.

What is the lead time for custom fill fluids?

Silicone oil fill: 5–7 additional business days. HALAR (PVDF) coated internals for concentrated acids: 15–20 business days. Standard glycerine fill ships in 5–10 business days.
