Frequently asked questions

What is the advantage of a diaphragm gauge over a Bourdon-tube gauge?

A diaphragm gauge senses pressure via a large, flexible metal plate rather than a coiled tube. This gives three advantages: it can measure very low pressures (down to 10 mbar), the sensing cavity can be made flush-mount so viscous or clogging media never enter a narrow passage, and the diaphragm material can be changed independently of the connection body.

What diaphragm materials are available?

Standard: 316L stainless steel. Optional: tantalum (strong mineral acids), Hastelloy C-276 (mixed acid/chloride service), PTFE-lined (hydrofluoric acid). Each material must be selected based on the specific process chemistry.

What is the lowest pressure ZX-05 can measure?

With the standard diaphragm, the minimum reliable range is 0–1 kPa. An optional low-range diaphragm (increased sensitivity) extends this to 0–10 mbar. Below 5 mbar, consider an electronic differential pressure transmitter for better resolution.

Can ZX-05 be used for gas and liquid pressure?

Yes. Gas, vapour, and liquid pressures are all measured correctly. For aggressive or condensing vapour, ensure the diaphragm cavity is self-draining or specify a heating jacket to prevent condensate accumulation.

How is ZX-05 cleaned in a food-grade installation?

The flush-mount diaphragm is exposed directly to CIP and SIP flows. 316L diaphragm withstands caustic (2% NaOH at 80 °C) and acidic (1% HNO₃) CIP cycles. Specify EPDM diaphragm gasket for aggressive CIP chemicals; Viton for high-temperature SIP to 135 °C.

What connection standards are available?

Process connections: G1/2, G1, DN50/DN80 flanges (DIN 11864, PN16 or PN40), ASME B16.5 flanges (150# or 300#), and DIN 11851 hygienic couplings. Specify connection and pressure rating at order.

What happens if the diaphragm is overloaded?

The diaphragm deflects onto a protective stop inside the measuring cell at approximately 200% FS, preventing permanent deformation. For pressures above 150% FS sustained, the gauge should be removed and inspected. Unlike a Bourdon tube, the diaphragm failure mode is typically a hairline crack — replace, never repair.

Can ZX-05 measure negative (vacuum) pressure?

Standard version: vacuum down to −1 bar (full atmospheric vacuum). For compound ranges (e.g. −1 to +1 bar), specify at order. The diaphragm is pre-loaded to handle vacuum without inversion.

Does ZX-05 need to be mounted vertically?

Preferred orientation is vertical (diaphragm facing down) for liquid media to avoid air pockets in the measuring cell, and horizontal for gas media. Any orientation is functional; note that heavy diaphragm materials (tantalum) may cause a small zero shift if mounted non-vertically — compensate during calibration.

What calibration interval is recommended for ZX-05?

For process control: annually, or after any significant overpressure event. For utility monitoring: every two years. ZX-05 can be recalibrated in-place with a pneumatic calibrator connected to the process port if the line can be isolated.
