Frequently asked questions

What is a capsule pressure gauge and how does it differ from a Bourdon-tube gauge?

A capsule gauge uses a sealed capsule (two corrugated diaphragm halves welded together) as the sensing element. When pressure enters the capsule, it expands axially, moving a lever arm connected to the pointer. Capsule gauges are far more sensitive than Bourdon tubes — standard ranges start at 0.5 mbar — making them the correct choice for gas pressure, duct pressure, and draft measurement.

What is the minimum pressure ZX-07 can accurately measure?

With the standard capsule: reliable measurement from 0–1 kPa (10 mbar). With the high-sensitivity capsule option: 0–0.5 mbar — resolving individual Pascal changes. Below 0.5 mbar, a manometer (liquid column) or electronic differential pressure transducer is more appropriate.

What media is ZX-07 compatible with?

ZX-07 is designed for gases and clean air. The capsule material is 316L SS (standard) or brass. Not suitable for liquids, condensing vapours, or sticky/viscous gases that would coat the capsule interior. For liquid or aggressive vapour service, use the diaphragm gauge ZX-05.

Can ZX-07 measure differential pressure?

The single-capsule version measures gauge pressure (relative to atmosphere). A dual-capsule DP version is available for measuring pressure differences between two gas streams (e.g. filter DP across an air-handling unit). Specify DP range and connection arrangement at order.

What connection size does ZX-07 use?

G1/4B (standard) or G1/8B (miniature). For duct pressure tapping, the gauge connects via a 6 mm or 1/4" OD tube nipple inserted through the duct wall with a rubber grommet seal.

What is the accuracy of ZX-07?

Class 1.6 (±1.6% FS) standard. On a 60 kPa scale, that is ±0.96 kPa. For very-low-range capsules (0–1 kPa), Class 1.6 represents ±16 Pa — adequate for duct balance work. For higher precision (±5 Pa), specify an electronic differential pressure transmitter.

Why does ZX-07 have a much larger dial than a standard Bourdon gauge for the same pressure range?

The capsule deflection at full scale is smaller than a Bourdon tube, so the movement amplification ratio must be higher to drive the pointer to full scale. This requires a longer pointer and, consequently, a larger dial. ZX-07 typically uses a 100 mm or 150 mm dial for ranges below 10 kPa.

Can ZX-07 withstand overpressure?

The capsule deflects onto a protective stop at approximately 150–200% FS, preventing permanent deformation. Sustained overpressure above 200% FS will distort the capsule — replace, do not recalibrate. Unlike a Bourdon tube, a distorted capsule shows a visible deformation on inspection.

Is ZX-07 suitable for outdoor installation?

Standard ZX-07 is IP54. For outdoor or wash-down service, specify the IP65 hermetically sealed case. Ensure the process connection is protected from direct water ingress, which would enter the capsule and freeze or corrode.

What is the difference between ZX-07 and a manometer (U-tube)?

A manometer uses a liquid column (water or mercury) to indicate pressure — accurate but fragile, position-sensitive, and requires manual reading. ZX-07 uses a mechanical capsule with a pointer, is portable and position-insensitive, and reads directly in kPa or mbar. For pressures above ~10 mbar, ZX-07 is more practical for field use.
