Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between a vacuum gauge and a compound gauge?

A vacuum gauge (ZX-02) reads only negative pressure, from 0 to −760 mmHg (full vacuum). A compound gauge reads both vacuum (negative) and positive pressure on a single dial — useful when the same line can swing between both. ZX-02 gives finer vacuum resolution when positive pressure excursions never occur.

Can ZX-02 handle a momentary positive-pressure surge?

The bourdon tube is rated for brief positive-pressure surges up to 0.3 bar. Sustained positive pressure will over-range and permanently damage the tube. Install a pressure-relief valve upstream if positive overpressure is possible.

What wetted materials does ZX-02 use?

Bourdon tube: phosphor bronze (standard) or 316L SS (optional). Socket/connector: brass (standard) or 316L SS (optional). Specify SS wetted parts for moist or mildly corrosive vapours.

Which vacuum scale units can I order?

Standard: mmHg. Dual scale: mmHg + kPa, inHg + kPa, or bar (negative) + mmHg. Custom: mbar, Torr. Specify at order.

How do I verify full vacuum on a process?

At full atmospheric vacuum, the pointer should read −760 mmHg (0 Torr, 0 mbar absolute). Note that gauge accuracy is ±2.5% FS = ±19 mmHg at the vacuum extreme — use a calibrated reference if absolute vacuum depth is critical.

Is ZX-02 suitable for steam or condensing vapour service?

Only with the optional 316L SS bourdon tube and socket. Standard phosphor-bronze tube is not rated for steam or aggressive vapours. Ensure there is no condensate trap that could cause a water hammer hit on the bourdon tube.

What dial sizes are available?

50 mm, 63 mm, 100 mm, and 160 mm. 100 mm is recommended for vacuum service — the expanded scale improves readability near full vacuum.

Can ZX-02 be used to measure vacuum in refrigerant systems?

Yes, but note that refrigerant-compatible wetted parts (brass) are standard. For R-410A or CO₂ (transcritical), the gauge serves only the evacuation/dehydration phase; install a dedicated refrigerant gauge (ZX-10) for operating pressure monitoring.

What is the accuracy of ZX-02?

Class 2.5 (±2.5% FS = ±19 mmHg) standard. Class 1.6 (±12 mmHg) available for tighter process control. Both are calibrated against a reference standard before shipment.

Can I get a combined vacuum + pressure (compound) dial?

Yes — this is covered by a separate compound range model. Contact us specifying the positive pressure range required (e.g. −1 to +5 bar), and we will quote the appropriate compound gauge.
